EXCLUSIVE: Anonymous Content on Wednesday announced its signing of director Anthony Mandler.
Most recently, Mandler directed and produced the MGM Western drama Surrounded, starring Letitia Wright, Jamie Bell and the late Michael K. Williams, which premiered at the Sun Valley Film Festival and was released digitally in June 2023.
Up next, he’s set to direct the psychological thriller Head Games, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Henry Golding — a film scripted by Colin Liddle that’s scheduled to go into production in Rome in October.
Mandler made his feature film directorial debut with the critically acclaimed 2018 Netflix pic Monster, starring Kelvin Harrison Jr., Jennifer Hudson, Jeffrey Wright, John David Washington, and Jennifer Ehle. Written by Radha Blank, Cole Wiley and Janece Shaffer, the film based on the 1999 YA novel by Walter Dean Myers premiered at Sundance, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize – Dramatic.
Through his production company Arcovison Pictures, Mandler has built a successful side career producing and directing commercials, as well as executive creative campaigns. His work has garnered over 15 billion views in total. Bearing a socially conscious message bringing attention to social diversity and race, his spot “The Look” for Procter & Gamble was awarded best direction at the Clio Awards in 2019.
Prior to his move into narrative storytelling, Mandler made his mark in the music video scene as one of the industry’s most coveted directors by directing generational talents including Rihanna, Taylor Swift, The Killers, Jay-Z, The Weeknd, Drake, and many more. He also previously partnered on a trilogy of short films with Grammy winner Lana del Rey.
Mandler began his career as a photographer shooting editorial and commercial work capturing cultural icons and moments, which he continues today. A graduate of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, he continues to be represented by Adam Levine at Verve and Eric Suddelson at Felker Toczek Suddleson.
