Fans and community members are reportedly mourning the loss of Oakland, California, rapper, Tan DaGod.

Police responded to the scene on Telegraph Ave’s 4000 block around 5 p.m. following a shooting inside the strip mall where the store was located.

A report from the Mercury News noted that the incident occurred after a dispute broke out.

Paramedics discovered one victim with a gunshot wound who later succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Tan DaGod was not identified as the victim at that time. According to KRON4, another victim was reportedly shot near the location and was later transported to the hospital. Police indicated that the second victim was in stable condition and expected to recover. Authorities have not identified the shooter.

Social media reacts to Tan DaGod’s shooting at the Glamor Beauty event.

Oakland rapper and entrepreneur, Mistah F.A.B, who has collaborated with rap stars such as E-40 and Snoop Dogg, confirmed Tan DaGod’s death on Instagram on July 14. The “Perfect City” rapper revealed that he was scheduled to attend the rising Oakland star’s launch event for Glamor Beauty on Saturday.

“The violence is beyond understanding the hurt the pain the trauma has made a forever-lasting impact @tan.dagod I will always remember you as a hustling ass go-getter, with a world of ambition, drive and courage, and a heart big as TEXAS!!!!” he penned.

“I love you lil sis and told you on several occasions sad to see this happen!!! They had me booked to be there with you but GOD had different plans .. to #Tannation family and friends may our warmest condolences be with you!!”

On X, fans mourned the loss of the 27-year-old, with some praising her hardworking nature and the endless dedication she showed to her community and loved ones.

Who was Tan DaGod?

In her 2023 interview on the Kid L Podcast, Tan DaGod recounted her explosive entry into the music scene in 2020 through a series of online freestyles. Determined to carve out a place for herself despite lacking connections, the 27-year-old rapper consistently released music, captivating fans with her vibrant personality, high energy and clever lyrics.

Her breakout moment in 2023 came with the “Controlla Freestyle,” which garnered over 110,000 streams on YouTube. She followed this success with hits like “Mac & Needs” and most recently, “Ex Wood Pack,” highlighting her dynamic flow and infectious lyricism.

During her 2023 interview with Kid L, Tan DaGod disclosed details about her alleged involvement in a self-defense case concerning an abusive ex-partner. Speculation among fans arose regarding any potential connection to her death, however, authorities have not verified these rumors.

Kid L also shut down the gossip.

“Rest in peace to Tan DaGod, who was unfortunately gunned down at her meet and greet in Oakland, California. Our prayers are with her and her family. We’ve seen a lot of people say cruel things about her fate, but I’ve had multiple conversations with a woman that was scared for her family and would protect them at any means necessary,” he wrote on X July 15.
