Deadpool & Wolverine marks the proper big-screen debut of Hugh Jackman’s comic-accurate yellow and blue superhero suit. The closest that viewers came to seeing his suit was in a deleted scene in 2013’s The Wolverine, as well as the hint of yellow that was added to his black X-Men: Days of Future Past outfit. But now that the world celebrates the arrival of his classic yellow costume, the emotional reaction of those present on the set during his initial camera test has been revealed.

Deadpool & Wolverine EP shares on-set reactions to Hugh Jackman’s first camera test

The film’s executive producer Wendy Jacobson recently stated that Jackman’s first suit test created a very “special” moment on the set. Adult men were seen getting emotional and “sobbing” with happiness.

Speaking with HeyUGuys (via IGN), Jacobson said, that “it was one of the craziest things.” She added:

“It was the camera test. It was before we started shooting. To see both of those guys, first of all, in costume together was just mind-blowing, but Hugh walking out in the yellow and blue, I mean, there were grown men, like, sobbing on set. So we knew it was a special, very special thing.”

In a previous interview with Variety, Hugh Jackman described his feelings when he first wore the yellow suit. He couldn’t believe that he had never worn the comic-accurate costume before. Furthermore, Reynolds also corroborated Jacobson’s comment on the crew’s reaction by saying:

“I’ve never seen a crew reaction like that. We barely talked about the suit in the early development because it was a no-brainer. You don’t do this character now unless he’s in the suit.”

Director Shawn Levy also mentioned that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was adamant about introducing Jackman’s yellow suit. He praised the fact that Wolverine still turned out to be a huge character without his suit, saying:

“It’s a testament to Wolverine that it didn’t necessarily matter; the character is more than the costume.”

But he also believed that Jackman not being in a yellow Wolverine suit was similar to Clark Kent “never wearing the Superman costume” for 10 movies. Hence, Hugh Jackman was always going to wear the yellow and blue suit in Deadpool & Wolverine.
