Is Dave Bautista turning his back on James Gunn? The actor reveals why he hasn’t been cast in a role for the upcoming DC Universe reboot.
Given James Gunn’s tendency to cast actors he’s worked with before in roles, many assumed that Dave Bautista would be first in line to join the DC Universe. However, at this point, the wrestler-turned-actor seems almost entirely absent from the upcoming reboot.
This isn’t an accident, Dave Bautista explained in a recent interview. The actor claimed that, while he always wanted to play Bane, he’s too old to play such an iconic character in James Gunn’s upcoming reboot. Since deciding not to pursue that part, he hasn’t found any other character that calls to him when it comes to the DC Universe.
“For forever, it was Bane,” Bausta told Screen Rant. “When I was younger, I wanted to play Bane; it was like a dream role for me. And I got to a point in my career where I just felt like I was just too old to play Bane. I think the physicality of it, at this point in my career and my life, I just wouldn’t be able to do the character justice.”
“And then I saw somewhere online that someone posted something of me playing Lex Luthor; an older Lex Luthor. I kind of became obsessed with that idea. Obviously, they moved on from that idea, so at this point, I’m struggling to find my place in the DC universe. But I’d really be up for anything.”
Who Could Dave Bautista Play In The DC Universe?
Given how much fans want to see Dave Bautista and James Gunn work together again, almost any part he plays in the DC Universe would be welcomed with open arms. Some interesting ideas have been that Bautista could play Hugo Strange in the upcoming Batman reboot, or potentially even take on the role of the iconic Vandal Savage.
However, perhaps the most likely character Dave Bautista could play in the new DC Universe is Jack Hawksmoor. James Gunn has already confrimed that a movie based on The Authority will be coming in the franchise’s reboot, and the character has both the nuance and physicality that Bautista is known for bringing into his most iconic roles.
