Dark Horse’s Marvel publishing line will include the art of “The King”

Dark Horse Books and Marvel Comics recently announced a new publishing collaboration including in-depth art books, set to debut in October 2024 with The Art of the Amazing Spider-Man. Continuing the exploration of influential Marvel artists and series, Dark Horse can now reveal The Marvel Comics Covers of Jack Kirby Volume 1, set to arrive in January 2025 and available to preorder now.

Jack Kirby (1917-1994) is well known for his work for Marvel Comics. The multi-volume series, The Marvel Comics Covers of Jack Kirby, collects Kirby’s cover art in a beautifully designed hardcover format. The volumes will reproduce all of Kirby’s Marvel Comics covers alongside commentary providing insights into Kirby’s composition and artistic process.

Volume 1 of this series contains Kirby’s cover artwork from 1961 to 1964, showcasing his earliest works from popular Marvel Comics titles such as The Fantastic Four, The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk, Journey into Mystery, Strange Tales, Tales to Astonish, and The X-Men. This collection takes readers on a journey back to the earliest era of Marvel Comics, making it a must-have for any fan of Jack Kirby and Marvel Comics.

“40 years into his career, Kirby once again redefined the comics medium and his iconic covers helped usher in the Marvel age of comics. Volume 1 teleports us back to the early days at Marvel Comics and explores his early work on these beloved characters,” said Vincent Iadevaia, co-designer, co-editor, and curator of @kirbycovers on Instagram.

The Marvel Comics Covers of Jack Kirby Volume 1 art book arrives in bookstores on January 7, 2025, and in comic shops on January 8, 2025. The 184-page, 8.375” x 12.75” volume is available for preorder on local comic shop, bookstore, TFAW, Amazon, or Barnes and Noble, with a retail price of $49.99.
