DJ Premier has assembled an all-star line-up of Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Big Sean for his latest single “Ya Don’t Stop.”
The legendary producer is behind the boards for the track, which has an old school cypher vibe as the three rap titans take it in turns to spit over the boom bap-flavored production.
Up first is Rozay who comes through with some of his customary luxury raps: “Lean like LeBron, very rare that I miss / Cars by the sets, every pair that I pick / Lamborghini on the wrist, how you braggin’ on the watch? / You just a preemie with the chips, boy.”
Sean Don offers more thought-provoking rhymes, rapping about his work ethic on the hook: “They don’t know nothing about sacrifice / N-ggas want the perks without doing all the work / They don’t see all of the hard work, they just all the results.”
Closing out the heavyweight posse cut, Wayne unloads some fiery bars in a breathless flow, spitting: “I’m a sniper with this rifle, I’m spittin’ like it’s a cypher / You decipher: is you Mike, is you Beckford, or is you Tyson? / I got ice on top of ice on my neck, crawlin’ like spiders / Spider-Man mask, gun in my hand, before the virus.”
Preemo spoke about how the track came together in an Instagram video, saying: “[Rick Ross] was like, ‘Send me the joint, lemme hear it.’ Same night he sent it back. Boom. I reached out to Lil Wayne. I said, ‘I have two songs.’ Same night he says, ‘Yo, I’ll take ’em both. Do whatever you want with ’em.’ Done deal.
“Big Sean hits me up and says, ‘I needed a scratch hook. What can I do in return?’ I say, ‘Do a hook for me on this.’ He sends it back, I’m like. ‘That’s it.’ As a producer and a DJ, you just know when its cooked — and now we serving it.”
He added in a press release: “I’ve been on a run, and releasing singles more consistently. I had an idea and wanted to initially get Wayne and Ross on the same track.”
“Ya Don’t Stop” marks the first-ever collaboration between Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and Big Sean, and comes as DJ Premier is enjoying one of the most prolific streaks of his decorated career.
He recently worked with Eminem and 2 Chainz on the Death of Slim Shady bonus cut “Kyrie & Luka” and is gearing up to release a long-awaited joint album with Nas later this year.
