Tink is opening up about her split with Hitmaka and how tough it was to continue their working relationship once their personal one ended.
The pair split in 2023 after the singer accused the producer of getting physical with her — a claim he denied while levying his own allegations against the singer.
Months later, however, they seemingly reconciled as they both promoted her new music.
During a visit to The Breakfast Club this week, she revealed that she was contractually obligated to work on an album with her ex, so regardless of the situation, they were forced to collaborate.
“I had to take the emotion out of it,” she said. “And we were already in a contract so there were obligations. Things were already in motion.
“That process was different for me,” she continued. “It took a lot of maturity for me to get in that booth and for us to come to agreement on these songs. We had hard days where he had to walk out, and that’s just what it is. I needed time away to get my mind together. [It was like,] ‘I can’t look at you today, I can’t be around you, listening to what you want to say right now.’ ”
They were able to finish, however – and a lot of the art reflects the real life situation.
“We went through a lot of turmoil,” she concluded. “So there’s a bit of him in a lot of these records. And he knows that, we worked on the album together.”
Describing their initial split, Tink said at the time:
“I had a moment in that car when I had to get physical,” Tink said. “Don’t play with me, and please, don’t get on this Internet playing, because I had to defend myself. And Christian, when you see this shit, just understand you’re foul. That’s all I need you to know.”
That same day, Hitmaka took to his own Instagram Stories where he said he “stands on being real” and refused to allow Tink’s accusations against him to stand unchallenged.
What’s more, the producer implied that he’d be taking the accusations to attorneys to potentially pursue legal charges against the “Bottom B-tch” rapper: “She gonna have to pay. I don’t even know what that girl talking about.”
Both parties have seemingly gotten to a better place, however.
