Céline Dion left viewers gagging as she made a triumphant return to music at the Paris Olympics‘ opening ceremony on July 26, per Associated Press.

It’s been over a year since she announced her stiff-person syndrome diagnosis. However, on Friday, the 56-year-old tore the stage up like she never left.

Recap Of Céline Dion’s Performance

The global icon sang Edith Piaf’s ‘Hymn to Love’ from the Eiffel Tower at the closing of the highly anticipated event. Prior to the ceremony, the ceremony’s media guide teased a “a world star” set to perform a  “a purely grandiose, superbly scintillating finale.”

And they didn’t lie! She delivered the top-tier tone and vibrato she is legendary for, leaving the crowd gobsmacked. There was no doubt that Céline still got it!

The vocalist stepped away from the stage in 2020 when the coronavirus pandemic hit. She subsequently had to postpone her 2022 tour. As previously reported by The Shade Room, Céline was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder called stiff-person syndrome. The condition eventually caused her to cancel her 2022 tour to focus on her health.

During that time, Dion took to social media to share her diagnosis. “It’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through,” Céline stated. She revealed that the illness “affects like one in a million people.”

The Grammy winner’s disorder causes her muscles to become rigid. Additionally, she experiences intense muscle spasms. This affected how she spoke, sang, and her mobility. However, the mom of three has undergone a variety of therapies to manage her neurological condition.

Social Media Reacts To Céline’s Opening Ceremony Performance

Commenters under The Shade Room’s Instagram report of Céline’s comeback weighed in on her return.

@realbriamyles said, “She never left !!! She will ALWAYS be CELINE.”

“There’s singers and then There’s Whitney and Celine,” @tee_la_shu said.

@hausofshee added, “Wow I’m going to cry! She said she will sing again and she sure did.”

“Celine said ‘Stiff where’.. May God continue to Bless her..” @lolo_bangzz wrote.
