This is Tour Diary, where artists give us a behind-the-scenes look at life on the road.

“We like to have a good time offstage to balance out what it is to relive these songs onstage every night,” says Tyler Kershaw of House of Harm. “We take what we do up there extremely seriously. If we all weren’t complete idiots offstage, the three of us likely wouldn’t survive a single day together.” This past June, the Boston post-punk trio played to crowds across the West Coast for a short-and-sweet headlining run. Rather than tell that story in behind-the-scenes photos, though, the band created a mini tour documentary, titled “In Spite of Their Efforts,” that captures their stops in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, LA, and Phoenix. Filmed by Yusef Porcello, it features the band playing piano on the street, singing Creed in their hotel room, and reflecting on their humble beginnings in an apartment basement, dreaming of what they’re accomplishing now.

“No one will ever really know what goes on beyond the curtain, but having someone there capturing the little moments makes me proud to show them off a bit — it feels like things are happening, and we are a part of it,” guitarist/synth player Cooper Leardi adds. The band will also head out on their first-ever U.K./EU headline tour later this year, including festival appearances.
