Why Jack Ryan Spin-off Series Got Canceled, Actor Explains

Showtime has revealed the opening title sequence for the upcoming Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin.

The series is set in 1991 Miami and follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson), “a student refining his killer skills with the help and support of his adoptive father Harry (Christian Slater).

“In his dad, he finds solace and understanding, especially as his bloodthirsty urges grow and can no longer be ignored. As his only confidant, Harry teaches Dexter a code that’s designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to die — all while avoiding getting caught by law enforcement.

“This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”

Michael C. Hall is a producer on the series and he’s also the narrator of the series. He show up at Comic-Con to talk about the series and he said:

“It’s pretty heady. I’m having flashbacks of the first time I came to Comic-Con. We were in this hall. That was … 75 years ago? It’s amazing to still be alive. I cannot wait to watch this show.

“To a certain degree, I have a sense of what is coming. I’ve spent so much time with this character and to go back to have those sort of imaginative blanks filled in this technicolor show … It’s amazing.”

The Comic-Con panel was moderated by Sarah Michelle Geller, who’s also starring in the prequel series. Joining her on stage were Slater, Gibson, and Executive Producer Scott Reynolds and showrunner Clyde Phillips.

Phillips talked about the prequel saying: “Expect what you have seen before but better. To see these characters as their younger selves is just amazing and the storytelling, I promise you, will be surprising and astonishing and satisfying.”

Reynolds added: “It’s a wide-open path. Being able to tell a story about a kid who thinks he’s worthless and a dad who says he’s not is a beautiful thing.”

It was also announced that there is a Dexter: New Blood continuation series in development titled Dexter: Resurrection, which will see Hall returning as the titled killer, and will begin production in January.
