Alternative Press teamed up with the Get Up Kids for an exclusive violet and silver mix vinyl variant of the 25th anniversary edition of Something To Write Home About, limited to 500 copies. Head to the AP Shop to grab yours.

Emo veterans the Get Up Kids are treating their highly influential 1999 sophomore album, Something To Write Home About, to an expanded reissue for its 25th anniversary, which features the remastered album and a second disc with 12 rare or previously unreleased demos from the era, including four of Matt Pryor’s original four-track acoustic demos that he made before bringing the songs to the band. They’ve been sharing some of those demos ahead of the reissue’s release (it comes out on Aug. 23 digitally and Sept. 20 physically via Polyvinyl), as well as some newly made music videos for the album’s most classic songs. They recently put out a video and demo for the fiery opener “Holiday,” and today they’ve done the same for “Ten Minutes.” Co-vocalist/guitarist Jim Suptic, who wrote and sings this one, says:

When I wrote the opening guitar riff for “Ten Minutes,” my inspiration was the song “Do the Vampire” by Superdrag. It’s pretty obvious once you know. Their album, Head Trip in Every Key, was on heavy rotation when we were writing Something to Write Home About.

When I listen back to this song and watch the new video for it, my first impression is just how young we were. Some of us were literally teenagers. My voice almost sounds like a totally different person than who I am today. With that said, maybe that is why the album connected with so many people. We were singing about the things everyone struggles with at that age. At its core, Something to Write Home About is a coming-of-age record.

I think Josh Berwanger did a fantastic job editing the video. He and his band the Anniversary were there for a lot of this, and witnessed some of these moments first hand.
