Warner Bros. has announced the Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 Max release for the upcoming streaming debut of Kevin Costner‘s latest Western epic drama. This comes after over a month since the film’s theatrical release.

“In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many,” reads the synopsis. “Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends, and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.”

When is the Horizon Chapter 1 Max release date?

Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 is scheduled to make its streaming debut on Friday, August 23, exclusively on Max. Since its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, the film has received mixed reviews from critics. It currently holds an Audience score of 70% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 2,500 verified ratings.

The first installment is directed by Costner, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Baird. The film stars Costner, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Giovanni Ribisi, Abbey Lee, Will Patton, Jena Malone, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Jeff Fahey, Isabelle Fuhrman, Ella Hunt, David O’Hara, Owen Crow Shoe, Tatanka Means, Tim Guinee, Scott Haze, Tom Payne, Alejandro Edda, James Russo, Jon Beavers, Jaime Campbell Bower, Michael Anganaro, and more.

Horizon is produced by Costner, Howard Kaplan and Mark Gillard, with Danny Peykoff, Robert Scannell, Armyan Bernstein, Charlie Lyons, Barry Berg, and Rod Lake executive producing. Chapter 1 will be followed by two more installments, with Chapter 2 expected to debut at the 81st Venice International Film Festival.
