Veronica Roleen Gast, 30, and her boyfriend were driving to a therapy appointment when he reportedly told her that he wanted to end their relationship and asked to be taken home. Fox News reported that the couple had only been together for a year. An arrest affidavit states that Gast suddenly stopped the vehicle and demanded that her boyfriend get out. As he exited the vehicle and walked in front of the car to a nearby sidewalk, Gast allegedly made eye contact with him before accelerating in an attempt to run him over.
The victim was hit by a vehicle, rolled across the hood, and crashed into the windshield, which shattered upon impact. Deputies from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office said the collision caused a laceration to his right elbow, and Gast admitted that she hit her boyfriend with the car as she was pulling away. She claims that she was in shock after the incident, which caused her to slow down and eventually stop the vehicle to call the police.

Gast also told police that the cracked windshield was a result of her boyfriend punching the glass instead of his body hitting it. However, there was no further information on whether she sustained injuries in the incident. She was arrested on charges of second-degree assault, criminal vehicular operation causing bodily harm, gross negligence, and domestic assault.
