Patrick And Brittany Mahomes Pledge $5M To Texas Tech

On Thursday, Texas Tech Athletics revealed that the Mahomes’ have pledged $5 million to the South End Zone and Dustin R. Womble Football Center project.

According to Texas Tech, fundraising for the new football center began when Patrick Mahomes, now a three-time NFL champion, was a freshman at the university.

The Campaign for Fearless Champions, launched by Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt in 2014, aims to upgrade athletic facilities, boost student-athlete scholarships, and establish a “first-of-its-kind” leadership academy.

“When we first launched this campaign, Patrick was only a freshman and now it is fitting that we approach the end of the campaign with a gift of his own,” Hocutt said in the announcement. “We couldn’t be prouder to announce this gift from Patrick and Brittany Mahomes.”

“We are so proud of Patrick for all he has accomplished and how he has continually supported Texas Tech on a global scale,” he added.

In just six seasons as Kansas City’s starting quarterback, Patrick Mahomes has led the team through one of the NFL’s most dominant periods. He has secured three Super Bowl titles in the past five years and made six appearances in the AFC Championship game.

Most recently, Mahomes guided the Chiefs to victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, earning his third MVP award. At just 28 years old, Mahomes is the first Red Raider in history and only the fifth NFL quarterback ever to win three Super Bowls.

To show their gratitude for his generous donation, Texas Tech University will name a walkthrough area in the upcoming Womble Football Center after the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback. Additionally, Patrick will have the quarterback meeting room and the coordinator’s office in the new South End Zone Building at Jones AT&T Stadium named in his honor, according to the university’s announcement.

Despite his immense success on the field, Patrick Mahomes remains a dedicated supporter of his alma mater. Per the university, he has used an open weekend in the Chiefs’ schedule over the past three seasons to cheer on the Red Raiders, attending road games at Houston in 2021 and Kansas in 2023.

Plus, in 2022, he returned to campus for his induction into the Texas Tech Hall of Fame and Ring of Honor during a game against Baylor.

Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire called Patrick Mahomes “the best brand in sports.”

“There isn’t a greater ambassador for Texas Tech Athletics than Patrick Mahomes,” the head coach said in the official announcement. “He is arguably the best brand in sports, not only for his success on the field but for what he and his family do off it.”

Patrick has secured several high-profile endorsements and sponsorships, including State Farm, Adidas, Oakley, Head & Shoulders, among others.

“Since my hiring here at Texas Tech, it’s been evident to me just how much Patrick truly loves this university and football program, and this gift further emphasizes that,” McGuire added. “On behalf of our entire program, we can’t thank Patrick and Brittany enough for the impact they are making on our student-athletes and the future of Texas Tech Football,”

Mahomes’ donation has propelled Texas Tech’s fundraising total for the South End Zone and Womble Football Center project to $115 million, exceeding the athletics department’s initial $100 million goal. Texas Tech is set to reveal more details about The Campaign for Fearless Champions in the coming days.

Patrick Mahomes began his college journey at Texas Tech in 2014, initially joining the football team his freshman year. He made a notable debut during his redshirt freshman season in 2015.

By the time he declared for the NFL Draft after his junior year in 2017, Mahomes had impressive college stats. Over his career, he threw for 11,252 passing yards and 93 touchdowns, including a standout junior season where he racked up 4,547 yards and 36 touchdowns.
