Congratulations are in order for Ashanti and Nelly, who just announced the birth of their first baby together.
Ashanti, 43, and Nelly, 49, shared the arrival of their son Kareem Kenkaide Hayes a little over a month after his July 18 birth date. A rep for the couple shared the good news with PEOPLE, stating, “The proud and happy parents are so in love with KK!”
In an Instagram carousel, Ashanti posted a photo and video of herself postpartum in a pair of Frida Mom shorts. The singer showed off her perfectly sculpted mom-bod and a message about her dream of becoming a mother.
“Funny how life’s plans aren’t…always on time.. lol. I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings! This is what postpartum looks like I’m loving these super cozy @fridamom shorts! I’m so proud of my body for giving me my baby, baby, baby, baby, baby. ð,” she captioned her post.
The couple’s love story proves that sometimes it’s okay to spin-the-block. Nelly and Ashanti began dating in 2003 and eventually called it quits a decade later. In 2023, they reunited, sending nostalgic fans down a rabbit hole of their previous union. Judging from the couple’s growth, their time apart strengthened the bond they once shared.

In an interview with Essence, the singer revealed that she is pregnant, and Nelly is her fiancé. “This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope and anticipation,” Ashanti told the outlet. “Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”
The couple secretly tied the knot on December 27, 2023, according to TMZ.
