Ghostface Killah and RZA have formed a new duo called Staten Island for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s album inspired by The Warriors that will be executive produced by Nas.
The concept album, aptly titled Warriors, will feature various artists portraying characters from the movie, with the two Wu-Tang legends cast as the New York borough where some of the film is set.
It was not revealed what the nature of Ghostface and RZA’s contributions to Warriors will be.
Warriors will feature an eclectic group of artists such as Broadway star Billy Porter playing Granger, Michaela Jaé as Yaya and Mykal Kilgore as Élan, with the trio collectively known as The Hurricanes.
The 26-track project also features Latin singer and actor Marc Anthony as Tato, Luis Figueroa as Miguel, Flaco Navaja as Jesús who make up the gang Turnbull AC’s.
Big Pun‘s son Chris Rivers will play The Bronx, while Utkarsh Ambudkar is Sully and Casey Likes portrays Jesse.
A number of main parts for the album have still yet to be revealed, including the film’s lead roles of Ajax and Swan who were played by James Remar and Michael Beck, respectively, in the 1979 cult classic.
The concept album is being headed by musical star Miranda along with singer Eisa Davis.
Miranda and Davis said in a statement earlier this month: “We’ve spent the past three years musicalizing the Warriors’ journey home, from the South Bronx to Coney Island. Along the way we’ve gotten to work with a lot of our favorite artists, and we’ll be announcing their roles on the album in the weeks ahead.
“We can’t wait to share these songs with you on October 18.”
It is currently unknown if Nas will feature on the album in addition to his duties as an executive producer. The rest of the album’s performers are expected to be revealed before its released in October.
Warriors is currently available to pre-order here, with exclusive editions on CD and vinyl purchasable online.
Miranda and Nas previously collaborated on The Hamilton Mixtape, with the Queensbridge legend appearing on “Wrote My Way Out” along with his Mass Appeal signee Dave East as well as Aloe Blacc.
