Fatman Scoop, the iconic hype man and hip-hop artist, has tragically died after suffering a medical emergency during a concert Friday night in Connecticut.

Scoop’s death was confirmed in a statement shared by his family on his official Instagram page. He was 53.

“It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic Fatman Scoop,” the statement reads. “Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.”

The famed rapper, whose real name is Isaac Freeman III, was a beloved collaborator in the electronic dance music community. His voice, a gravelly force of nature that commanded dancefloors worldwide, featured in music by Skrillex, Hardwell, Laidback Luke and many more dance music icons.

Freeman’s booming baritone had the uncanny ability to ignite crowds, his call-and-response hooks becoming ageless anthems of celebration. Turning simple phrases into unforgettable party-starting mantras, his larger-than-life presence and unmistakable vocal delivery left an indelible mark on club culture, bridging genres and generations with the exuberance of a hype-man extraordinaire.

“FatMan Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and friend,” Freeman’s family wrote. “He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage. FatMan Scoop was known to the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten.”

We at EDM.com express our sincere condolences to the family, fans, friends and loved ones of Fatman Scoop.
