Disney has been developing a film adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel, The Graveyard Book, for a couple of years now with director Marc Forster (A Man Called Otto, Christopher Robin) and Finding Neverland screenwriter David Magee.
This is a project that I was looking forward to as it’s one of those books that I read with my kids when they were younger. But, according to IndieWire, Disney has put the film project on hold following sexual assault allegations brought against the author.
The report goes on to stress that the The Graveyard Book project is not being shelved entirely. The plan is to return to development at some point, but as of right now it will remain on hold. Gaiman was not involved in the project, aside from having written the source material.
The book tells the story of Nobody “Bod” Owen, a young boy who is raised by the ghosts and supernatural beings of a graveyard – including, the graveyard’s caretaker Silas – after his family is murdered.
As for the allegations made against Gaiman, he has denied them.
