Former President George W. Bush (a Republican) has no plans to endorse anyone in the 2024 presidential election; however, his former Vice President Dick Cheney (a Republican) plans to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris after calling former President Donald Trump “the greatest threat to our Republic.”

According to ABC News, Former President George W. Bush doesn’t plan to make an endorsement of either Donald Trump or Kamala Harris. He also doesn’t plan to share how his wife, Former First Lady Laura Bush, will vote in November. Bush’s office told the news outlet on Saturday (September 7).
The announcement arrives a day after his former Vice President Dick Cheney, who also served in other Republican administrations, announced that he would be crossing party lines to vote for the Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, in the November 2024 election.

In a remarkable historic moment just two months before Election Day, former VP Cheney released a statement on Friday (September 6) and said, “In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump.”
He continued, “He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again.”

Hours before his statement, Cheney’s daughter, Former Wyoming Member of the House Liz Cheney, announced that she’d be voting for Harris, and so would her father. Confirming her words in his statement, Cheney went on to endorse VP Harris. He then continued to rally American voters and said, “As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.”
Dick Cheney’s bold statement and endorsement of VP Kamala Harris makes him one of—if not the highest-profile Republican to actively show support for Harris as other GOP members slowly lose hope and gain reservations about Donald Trump.
This now continues to put other high-profile Republican figures in the hot seat and forces them to make a decision. Such people include: Trump’s Former Vice President Mike Pence, Former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, and Utah Senator Mitt Romney, who was the GOP presidential candidate in 2012.
