The movie follows a group of unlikely characters as they face a zombie apocalypse. The story begins when two employees at a medical supply warehouse, Frank and Freddy, accidentally release a military gas from a canister stored in the facility.
The gas reanimates a cadaver and spreads to a nearby cemetery, causing the dead to rise from their graves. Unlike traditional zombies, these undead creatures crave human brains specifically, and they are fast, nearly indestructible, and capable of speech.
Chaos ensues as Frank, Freddy, their boss Burt, and a group of punk rock teenagers fight to survive the night, with the situation spiraling out of control as the military is forced to intervene.
The movie has a great mix of dark humor with gruesome horror, creating a unique tone that set it apart from other zombie movies of its time.
Directed by Dan O’Bannon, Return of the Living Dead was an awesome mix of gory visuals, rapid pacing, and irreverent humor.
