More On Frankie Beverly

Frankie Beverly was born on December 6, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He began his music career in the 1960s, initially performing with a group called The Butlers, which later evolved into Frankie Beverly and Maze. The band gained prominence after releasing their debut album, “Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly,” in 1977, which included hits that showcased their unique sound.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Maze released several successful albums, solidifying their status as one of the leading acts in R&B music. Some of their other notable albums include “Golden Time of Day,” “Joy and Pain,” and “Back to Basics.” Their music often explores themes of love, happiness, and the complexities of relationships, making it relatable to many listeners.

In recent years, his songs have found new life through sampling in hip-hop and R&B, connecting his classic sound with modern audiences. “Before I Let Go” has been famously sampled by Beyoncé in her song “Before I Let Go” and has influenced numerous hip-hop tracks. “Joy and Pain” has been sampled by artists like DJ Khaled and others, highlighting its timeless appeal. This ongoing relevance speaks to the timeless quality of his work and the lasting legacy.

Earlier this charismatic frontman announced that he’ll retire this year, after a farewell tour with the R&B band that made him famous.“Thank you so much for the support given to me for over 50 years as I pass on the lead vocalist torch to Tony Lindsay. The band will continue on as Maze Honoring Frankie Beverly. It’s been a great ride through the decades. Let the music of my legacy continue,” he said in a statement to Billboard. The tour came to an end July 6, in his hometown, Philadelphia.

Frankie Beverly will be greatly missed.
