The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards are back, and this time they were hosted by everyone’s favourite Canadian father-son duo, Eugene and Dan Levy.
On Sunday night, the Levys led entertainment fans through a night of glamour, fashion and hot pop culture moments as A-list actors of the small screen took their bows for a job well-done.
Most eyes were on the cast and crew of Shōgun, which earned the most nominations this year, 25 in total. The series won 18 Emmys on Sunday night, including best drama series. Shōgun scored the most Emmys of any show this year and shattered standing records for the most wins for a single season.
On the comedy side, the Jeremy Allen White-led chef drama The Bear won big for a second year in a row but lost best comedy series to Hacks. The Bear earned 11 Emmys, a new record for the most wins in a single season for a comedy.
Ebon Moss-Bachrach of The Bear took home the first Emmy of the night, his second consecutive win for best supporting actor in a comedy. Billy Crudup of The Morning Show scored the same award in the drama category.
Jeremy Allen White also won his second consecutive Emmy for The Bear. The actor thanked the academy, the other nominees, his family and the show’s cast and crew.
“My beautiful cast, I love to work with you. I want us to be in each other’s lives forever,” White said in his brief acceptance speech. “This show has changed my life. It had instilled a faith that change is possible.”

“If you’re able to reach out, you’re never truly alone,” he said.
The Bear‘s Liza Colón-Zayas won for best supporting actress in a comedy. She thanked the Latina community and made the evening’s first mention of the upcoming U.S. presidential election when she encouraged people to “vote for your rights.”
Colón-Zayas is the first Latina actress to win the category.
Jean Smart of Hacks triumphed over fan-favourite Ayo Edebiri for best actress in a comedy series.
Smart said the win was “humbling” and joked she appreciated the moment because she “doesn’t get enough attention.”
Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada earned Emmys for best leading actor and actress in a drama series for Shōgun.
Sawai grew emotional during her speech and thanked her supporters through tears.
“This is to all the women who expect nothing and continue to be an example for everyone,” she said.
The popular drama Baby Reindeer scored its fair share of accolades, including for best writing of a limited or anthology series. The show about trauma follows the real-life struggle of a man overcoming abuse and dealing with a relentless stalker.

“Ten years ago, I was down and out. I never thought I’d be able to get my life together,” writer and star Richard Gadd said. “No matter how bad it gets, it always gets better. Keep going.”
Gadd, as well as Jessica Gunning, also took home the Emmy for best actor and supporting actress in a limited or anthology series for Baby Reindeer.
Prior to Sunday night, a number of Emmys have been distributed: Last week’s Creative Arts Emmys split the awards ceremony and handed out trophies for a number of categories, including one for Jamie Lee Curtis in her guest role on The Bear. Shōgun scored an impressive 14 wins, while The Bear trailed behind the historical drama with 7 trophies.
The Creative Arts Emmys also saw the songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul reach EGOT status with their original composition Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It? for Only Murders in the Building.
