Deorro, the renowned DJ and producer behind the global dance hit “Five More Hours,” has been nominated for his first Latin Grammy Award.

The Mexican-American producer received a nod in the category of Best Latin Electronic Music Performance for “BAMBOLE,” a collaboration he released on Pitbull’s Mr. 305 Records last summer alongside crossover dance artist Vikina. The pulsing track blends her sultry vocals with Deorro’s signature bouncy synths and four-on-the-floor rhythms.

This year is the first to feature the brand-new category, which the Latin Recording Academy says “recognizes the evolution of Latin electronic music.”

“That’s something that’s very big for us,” Deorro told GRAMMY.com about the new category. “How beautiful that this is happening, because it shows that what we’re doing is working, we’re breaking down doors, and we’re creating more opportunities for artists like us in the future.”

Joining Deorro are Brazilian dance music superstar Alok, who received a pair of nominations for his tracks “Pedju Kunumigwe” and “Drum Machine”; Dutch EDM icon Tiësto, who was nominated for his remix of Bizarrap and Shakira’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”; and Ale Acosta and Valeria Castro for their collaboration “La Ceniza.”

It’s a big moment for Deorro, who revealed he’d be focusing more on Latin dance music back in 2020. The chart-topping producer then released his first crossover album, ORRO, which features collaborations with Elvis Crespo, Brray and Los Tucanes De Tijuana, in 2022 before opening up for Bad Bunny on his “World’s Hottest Tour.”

Earlier this year, Deorro performed a remix of “Te Va a Doler” alongside Mexican singer, songwriter Thalía, prevalently referred to as the “Queen of Latin Pop,” at the 2024 Latin American Music Awards. He also signed with Double P Records, the label of hip-hop and reggaeton superstar Peso Pluma, before returning to the Mr. 305 imprint to release a rendition of “Como La Flor” by the late Mexican-American artist Selina Quintanilla alongside Natti Natasha and Play-N-Skillz.

Celebrating on social media, Deorro called his first Latin Grammy nomination a “dream come true.”

The Latin Recording Academy’s 25th annual Latin Grammy Awards will take place Thursday, November 14th at Miami’s Kaseya Center. Check out the full list of nominees here.
