Mick Jagger’s Partner Melanie Hamrick Shrugs Off Their 44-Year Age Gap

Mick Jagger’s partner, Melanie Hamrick, has chosen to pay no attention to those who have an issue with the 44-year age gap between her and the legendary singer.

She said that she doesn’t “think about it” and that people always have their opinions on issues, so she makes it her business to focus on her happiness instead.

Melanie Hamrick also opened up about how they first met each other, revealing that Mick Jagger greeted her with a fist bump.

Age is just a number for the retired ballerina, who shared that she doesn’t “think about” it in her relationship with The Rolling Stones frontman.

The 37-year-old author and the 81-year-old musician have been together for the past ten years and share a 7-year-old son named Deveraux.

Hamrick told The Sunday Times that she’d rather focus on her happiness than their age difference.

“I don’t think about it. Everyone’s going to have their opinion. If you think about others’ opinions, no matter where you are in life, you’re going to have a problem and you’re going to analyze it,” she said.

Hamrick added, “I put the blinders on. Am I happy? Yes. Are the people in my life happy? Yes. Am I hurting anyone? No. OK, they can mind their own business.”

Hamrick first met Jagger in February 2014 at a Rolling Stones concert in Tokyo. At the time, she was a ballet dancer with the American Ballet Theatre and attended the show with other dancers from her group.

In her chat with The Sunday Times, she shared that when she saw Jagger backstage, he greeted her with a fist bump, but she wasn’t starstruck.

“Ballet dancers meet some of the biggest stars and act like, ‘Who are you?’ Because, to us, ballet dancers are the gods. That’s who you study and look up to. You’re so in your world,” she said.

The former dancer continued, “Mick is the perfect balance. He’s not a ballet dancer but he is a dancer and a performer, and we understand each other’s worlds, yet we’re not in each other’s worlds.”

In June 2023, Hamrick shared her thoughts on walking down the aisle with Jagger, months after she first sparked wedding rumors with a diamond ring on her finger.

“I mean, I have to giggle because did Mick give me the ring? Yes. Is it for that finger? Yes,” she said. “But are we like, horny teenagers where we’re giving each other… In my mind, it’s a promise ring. We’ll be immature and call it a promise ring.”

Hamrick also shared her take on tying the knot with Jagger at the time. “I don’t know,” she said. “I’m kind of like, a live-in-the-moment type of person, so who knows.”

She also spoke about her book and shared that Jagger was so supportive as she worked on the novel and offered feedback to her.

“In the beginning, I let him read a lot because I was coming up with ideas. Writing a song is similar, and now in my mind I’m like, ‘How did he fit it all in five minutes? That’s crazy,'” she said. “He was incredibly supportive from the beginning and then after the first draft was done I was like, ‘OK, you’re going to have to wait for it to come out. You have to buy a copy.'”

Last year, the singer told WSJ Magazine that though he likes to keep “boundaries” when it comes to his personal life, speculations about his love life forced him to come out publicly about his relationship with Hamrick.

“People used to post stuff and everyone would think, whatever girl you’re standing next to… “Is that your new girlfriend?” You know. But everyone knows now,” he told the publication.

At the time, Jagger also shared that his family has been quite supportive in all his endeavors.

“I have this really wonderful family that supports me,” the singer said. “And I have, you know, young children—that makes you feel like you’re relevant.”

The mother-of-one worked for the American Ballet Theatre for 15 years before retiring in 2019. In June 2023, she published her first novel, “First Position,” in which she discussed sex, drugs, and ballet.

“It definitely is a fiction story! It wasn’t pulled from my personal stories,” she told People Magazine of the book at the time. “I think it’s pulled from many people’s experiences and what I witnessed over the years. You’re watching the show, but in the wings, it’s all madness — craziness and quick-change booths.”

Hamrick, who has been an avid reader since childhood, then shared how she started writing novels.

“Ballet’s so romantic and sexy,” she said. “[Writing about it] was actually therapeutic in a way. I had retired probably about six months before I started writing, and I had been venturing more into choreography while I was thinking, ‘What do I want to do after ballet?’ And then when Covid hit and the theaters all shut down, choreography wasn’t really an option.”
