Alex Cross is back with Cross Season 1, and we’re incredibly excited about it!

Prime Video has picked up Cross, an adaptation of the prolific James Patterson series. It’s a star-studded affair onscreen and off.

As one of the year’s most highly-anticipated series, we’re here to share everything you need to know about Cross and what’s to come.

Is Cross Inspired by the James Patterson Book Series?

Cross is just another in many adaptations of James Patterson‘s popular bestselling crime mystery series about a D.C. detective, Alex Cross.

The series was first introduced in 1993 and has 32 novels that complete the entire series.

It also has two novellas and at least three spinoff books in which Alex’s son, Ali, takes center stage and solves mysteries of his own.

Cross will likely be an adaptation of one of the books from the series, potentially even Cross itself.

However, that’s mere speculation, and we don’t have any confirmation about which novel the series will adapt.

Will James Patterson Be Involves with Cross Season 1?

If you were wary about yet another adaptation of the popular detective, fret not.

James Patterson is heavily involved with the production of this series.

He serves as an executive producer and others associated with James Patterson Entertainment.

If that isn’t exciting enough, Burn Notice‘s Ben Watkins is also an EP and showrunner.

The series hails from Skydance Television, which is also behind Reacher.

What is Cross Season 1 About?

Cross will focus on the central character, Alex Cross, a Metro PD detective and forensic psychologist.

Cross digs deep into the mindsets of killers, suspects, and victims, making him a powerhouse in case-solving.

According to the streamer, Cross is “brilliant, flawed, and full of contradictions.”

They also describe the series as a “twisted, complex, pulse-pounding thriller.”

According to the official press site:

Cross is a crime/thriller series that follows Alex Cross, a decorated D.C. homicide detective and forensic psychologist who faces a sadistic serial killer leaving a string of bodies strewn around the city. As Alex and his partner, John Sampson, track this killer, a mysterious threat from Cross’ past appears, aiming to destroy what he’s done to keep his grieving family, career, and life together.

Who Stars in Cross Season One?

We’re ecstatic about this star-studded cast for this series, particularly the star playing the titular character.

Hodge has quite the resume.

He’s played many diverse roles in his career, from beloved series to blockbuster hits and gritty dramas.

Hodge has starred in many roles, from Leverage to D.C.’s Black Adam, One Night in Miami, Underground, and City on a Hill.

He’s a brilliant actor.

We can’t think of a better person to helm this series!

Isaiah Mustafa as John Sampson

Mustafa, a former athlete turned actor, has appeared in those endearing Old Spice commercials and has played the beloved guardian werewolf Luke in Shadowhunters.

He’ll costar with Hodge as Cross’ partner, John Sampson.

The New Amsterdam star is taking on a very different role after closing a chapter on the medical drama and hanging up the white coat.

And it’ll be exciting to see him with a fresh start.

A blonde Ryan Eggold stars as Ed Ramsey in Cross Season 1.

Johnny Ray Gill as Bobby Trey

Gill is a stage and screen actor known for being a scene-stealer.

Gill brings such gravitas to everything you encounter him in.

He starred in Underground alongside Hodge.

He also appeared in BrainDead, Rectify, and Harry’s Law.

The Cross Season 1 cast includes Eloise Mumford, Juanita Jennings, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, and Jennifer Wigmore.

When Will Cross Season 1 Be Released?

Some of the best news yet is that we won’t have much longer to wait to tune into this series.

The Fall 2024 season looks promising after months of uncertainty during the dual strikes.

The first season of Cross will premiere on November 14.

Where Can You Watch Cross Season 1?

This crime-thriller series will premiere on Prime Video this fall, making waves and keeping everyone talking.

If you don’t have your subscription to the streamer already, you better get on it now!

How Many Episodes Are In Cross Season 1?

Cross’ entire season consists of eight episodes.

It’s better than the three- to six-episode formula we typically see in crime thrillers and procedurals across the pond.

But it’s shorter than the 10- to 13-episode count that we’ve come to expect with series that premiere on streamers.

Hopefully, Cross will make every second of that eight-count season worth our while.

Will Cross Have a Weekly Release or Full Season Drop?

We know that opinions on this topic can vary.

It’s also been the source of discussion and is often widely debated regarding some of the most successful series.

We’d love for a slower release of this series so we could genuinely savor all the episodes and foster some genuine discussion, but that won’t be the case.

For those of you who love a full-season release to binge at once, you’re in luck!

Unlike Reacher and The Summer I Turned Pretty, all eight episodes of Cross will drop on November 19.

Has Cross Been Renewed?

If you are unsure how much faith the streamer has in this series, let this put you at ease.

Amazon has announced Cross’ second season renewal well ahead of the series premiere.

Not only do we know that the series will be returning for a second season, but we also know who will star alongside Hodge.

The sophomore season will likely revolve around a different book, bringing new cast members.

(John Golden Britt/The CW)

The sophomore season will star Jeanine Mason of Roswell, New Mexico, as Rebecca, a vengeful and ambitious judge.

Scream legend and Good Girls star Matthew Lillard will likely play Lance, a cold-blooded business tycoon.

And Ahsoka‘s Wes Chatham will star as Donnie, who is a far-right military veteran and farmer.

Is There a Trailer for Cross?

Yes, we have you covered with an updated FULL-LENGTH trailer above to watch, and you’ll enjoy every glorious second of it.

While the initial minute-long trailer gave us a feel for who Alex Cross is, exploring him as a doting dad, a great partner, a worthwhile adversary, and, more importantly, a brilliant detective, the new trailer takes a wider and darker approach.

We kick start this trailer, not with Hodge’s voice but rather a platinum blond Eggold introducing himself with a voiceover proclaiming that “He’s not a monster, he doesn’t kill for fun,” while going on to claim someone will be part of a “masterpiece” and that the world will know the truth when he’s done.

The trailer tosses us right into the deep end with a creepy yet thrilling score, matching dark imagery from cases and who is presumably Eggold’s Ramsey beneath a human-like mask.

Then we shift to our introduction to Alex Cross, who is casually having dinner at a table with family or friends.

He explains that he’s a detective (rather than just a cop; put some respect on his title) and shares a similar sentiment with a perp who assumes he’s merely a psychologist rather than a detective.

Alex Cross is a talented man who proudly wears many hats, and he’ll assert himself regarding that, lest you ever forget or underestimate him.

Breaking Down the Trailer Tidbits

Aldis Hodge poses facing the camera in a black coat as he stars as Alex Cross in Cross.
(Quantrell Colbert/Prime)

Marvin Gaye’s Trouble Man starts the second Cross, comes into view, and carries through the remainder of the trailer; a masterful stroke regarding a needle drop.

And then, we get our first glimpse of just how this brilliant detective works, including his dynamic with partner Sampson and the eerie revelations of the season’s case involving changing the physical appearance of victims.

The intensity of the trailer carries on marrying the darkness of the case with Cross’ grief over his wife’s murder (something they give us a glimpse at) and his struggles to handle it all while being a single father with a support network begging him to get some help.

Life is difficult enough without Cross landing in the crosshairs of a killer who breaks into his home, jeopardizes the safety of his family, and kicks off a thrilling cat-and-mouse game.

The trailer teases that “Evil knows his name,” referring to Cross.

And so will everyone else when they tune into this thrilling series.

Why?

Because Alex Cross lives rent-free in the head of those he takes down, he knows and says as much in an endearingly amusing quip from the trailer.

But he’s also living rent-free in ours until the season drops.

Yes, we’re definitely hyped about Cross!

And we’ll keep you updated with any future developments ahead of the premiere.
