To close out this week’s State of Play, PlayStation unveiled the Ghost of Yotei trailer, revealing Sucker Punch Production’s next entry in the “Ghost” series.

What happens in the Ghost of Yotei trailer?

The trailer doesn’t show off too much in the way of story, but does reveal some key information. The game will take place in 1603, more than 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima, and star a new hero named Atsu. The game will also take place in the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei, a giant mountain in Ezo, which is now known as Hokkaido in present day Japan.

The trailer shows off some of the sprawling landscapes and visuals that Ghost of Tsushima offered, while also teasing that Atsu, much like Jin in Tsushima, is seemingly being hunted by someone. Combat was also briefly shown, as was the return of duels, a feature that appeared in the first game.

Check out the new Ghost of Yotei trailer below:

According to developer Sucker Punch Productions in a PlayStation Blog post, their goal with Ghost of Yotei is to continue exploring the idea of “Ghost.” They also mention that the game will be available to experience sometime in 2025.

Sucker Punch Production’s first “Ghost” game was 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima. In it, players took on the role of Jin Sakai, a samurai who was on a quest to stop the Mongol invasion of Japan and protect Tsushima Island. The game was extremely well received, with many praising its minimalist art style, melee combat, and story overall.

Following Ghost of Tsushima’s release, the game received a Director’s Cut release, as well as an expansion, in 2021. A PC version of the game was also just released earlier this year.
