Margot Robbie is set to star in and produce a film adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel Wuthering Heights, and she will star alongside Jacob Elordi (Saltburn).
Wuthering Heights is the iconic gothic romance novel and Robbie is set to take on the role of Catherine Earnshaw, while Elordi will play Heathcliff.
Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman, Saltburn) is set to write, direct, and produce the movie, which is in pre-production and gearing up for a UK shoot in 2025.
This is a story of passion, revenge, and the destructive power of love. The story is set on the bleak Yorkshire moors and follows the intense, tumultuous relationship between Heathcliff, an orphan taken in by the Earnshaw family, and Catherine Earnshaw, his childhood companion and soulmate.
Their love is passionate but also deeply toxic, leading to betrayal and suffering that ripples across generations. Heathcliff, consumed by vengeance after being mistreated and rejected, becomes obsessed with ruining the lives of those around him, particularly the descendants of both the Earnshaws and the neighboring Linton family.
This is a perfect film project for Fennell to take on as she has a knack for crafting dark stories with a brooding atmosphere, and complex characters.
