Mondo has released a great print for the classic 1981 John Landis-directed werewolf horror film An American Werewolf in London.

The poster art was created by artist Jérôme “Trëz” Oudot, who said of the piece: “I still remember the day I saw AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, at least 25 years ago, and that transformation scene remains for me one of the greatest moments in horror cinema!

“What I wanted to convey with this poster is that the werewolf’s first victim is David himself. That’s why I presented the main character as crushed by the beast, cowering from the pain inflicted by the transformation, but above all from the weight of this curse that is literally pulverizing his existence and the world around him.”

Art Director Josh Manderville added: “Rick Baker’s werewolf transformation scene was a huge milestone for practical effects in horror. Jerome’s frightening figurative paintings of human anatomy made for a compelling approach to representing David Kessler’s inner conflict, as he struggles with the volatile curse inside him. Stay on the road. Keep clear of the moors.”

If you want to buy a print, you can order it here for $80.

The film follows two American college students, David and Jack, who are backpacking through the English countryside. After ignoring local warnings to stay off the moors, they are attacked by a werewolf.

Jack is killed, and David is severely wounded but survives. As David recovers in a London hospital, he begins to experience terrifying hallucinations and is visited by the ghost of Jack, who warns him that he will transform into a werewolf at the next full moon.

The film does a great job of blending horror with dark humor, and it’s also celebrated for its groundbreaking special effects, especially its werewolf transformation sequence.
