It’s been about two years since Liam Hemsworth replaced Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher Season 4 and he has never talked about being cast in the series… until now.

Hemsworth broke his silence on playing Geralt while a guest on Live with Kelly and Mark (via Redanian Intelligence). It’s there that Hemsworth admitted that, when he was approached about playing Geralt, he hadn’t watched the Netflix series or read Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series.

However, he did play CD Projekt Red’s Witcher video game series. He said:

“I hadn’t seen the TV show. And I hadn’t read the books. But I played the video game like ten years ago or something. And it’s still to this day one of the best video games of all time.

“And Netflix came to me almost two years ago now and said that they wanted me to just step in and take over.”

Hemsworth added, “I was really excited by taking on that character because I was a fan of the video game. But I said, you know, let me watch the TV show and have a look at the books and really get stuck into it.”

The actor also confirmed on the show that filming would wrap on the new season in just a few weeks, with production beginning on The Witcher’s fifth and final season in early 2025 after a four-month break.

The Witcher Season 4 will pick up soon after the Season 3 finale. “After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other.

“If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire – and finding one another again.”

The Witcher series will come to an end with Season 5, and the final two seasons will adapt the remaining of author Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake.

The series also stars Freya Allan, Joey Batey, Freya Allan, Anya Chalotra, and Meng’er Zhang. New additions Laurence Fishburne, who will play Regis, and Danny Woodburn, who is starring as Zoltan.

It will be interesting to see if audiences and fans show up to continue watching this series now that Cavill isn’t involved.
