ComingSoon is excited to debut an exclusive Sing My Song trailer for the upcoming music documentary. The film will be available for streaming worldwide through SVOD platform Asian American Movies (AAM.tv) starting on Friday, October 11.

Check out the Sing My Song trailer below (watch more trailers):

Who is in the Sing My Song trailer?

The video introduces Vancouver-based broadcast journalist Kayee Lee, who’s an aspiring musician trying to fulfill her dream of getting her song sung and recorded. It highlights Lee’s music journey from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Hong Kong and Nashville, Tennessee, while also exploring the reason why there are still no Asian North American pop stars in today’s mainstream media.

Sing My Song is written, directed, and produced by Lee. In the film, Lee will also meet with fellow Asian American and Asian Canadian singer-songwriters, including the Far East Movement, Alfa Garcia, Kevin So, and Umi Hsu. It is executive produced by Quentin Lee, with Cindy Au Yeung serving as the editor.

“The documentary questions where are all the Asian popstars from North America? Following Barbara ‘Kayee’ Lee, an award-winning broadcast journalist and community advocate, on her decade-long journey to try to find an answer to this question,” reads the synopsis. “Lee’s pursuit of her musical dream intertwines with encounters with fellow Asian American and Asian Canadian singer-songwriters. This feature-length documentary challenges the Model Minority Myth, unraveling its dual nature – celebrated for excellence in classical music yet sidelined as not cool enough for mainstream popularity.”
