Fans everywhere have now been able to check out the trailer for Marvel’s Thunderbolts*, which debuted at San Diego Comic-Con this past summer.

It answered a few questions, and gave us a ton more to theorize and ponder on while we wait for the film to be released next spring. One point of interest in the casting of this movie was the role of Bob, which was given to actor Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick, Salem’s Lot).

This is a newcomer to the story, which is primarily filled with Marvel characters we know and love, and with a name like Bob, it left us to wonder.

Many have derived that he will probably be taking on the role of Sentry, whose name is Robert (Bob) Reynolds in the comics, and that has all but been confirmed.

But one thing that is still firmly up in the air is whether or not this character will fall more on the side of hero or villain within the roster of fellow antiheroes.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Pullman talked about his role, and when asked about the status of Bob’s intentions, he said:

“God, I would love to know. I genuinely, I don’t know. It’s one of the exciting parts about being invited into the whole universe is there’s a lot of unknowns, and you just kind of got to go with the flow and embrace the unknowns of it all.”

The Sentry is a Superman-esque Marvel comic book character, often thought of as the most powerful superhero in the Marvel Universe, who started off as an ordinary man who ingested a serum that gave him immense power.

But The Sentry’s power means that for every good deed he does, his evil side known as The Void counteracts it. This means that while the hero has the capability of being the best and most helpful hero in the world, he also could be the most evil and dangerous.

These conflicting powers are what makes Pullman’s place in the MCU so interesting. Despite feeling uncertain himself, Pullman seems to be excited either way, as he adds:

“But I would enjoy going in either direction. I can say that.” The Sentry’s place in Thunderbolts* is also up for debate as we don’t yet have an official synopsis for the movie.

We have plenty of time to see more footage and hear more details though, as Thunderbolts* hits theaters on May 2, 2025.
