A woman was arrested and charged for the shooting death of her husband after she was reportedly denied a temporary order of protection from him on Wednesday in Salt Lake City.

Jennifer Gledhill, 41, is facing charges of first-degree felony murder and second-degree felony obstruction of justice, according to the Cottonwood Heights Police Department. According to TOO FAB, Gledhill allegedly confessed to an informant that she shot her husband, Matthew Johnson, who was a member of the United States Military Special Operations Unit. She reportedly admitted to shooting him while he was sleeping and later attempted to cover up the crime.

The shooting allegedly took place shortly after a judge dismissed a temporary protective order that Gledhill had filed against Johnson. The ruling stated that video evidence showed her as “unafraid” and “equally confrontational” in their interactions. Johnson, 51, was reported missing on September 23 when he failed to show up for work with the Utah National Guard. His truck was found a few blocks from their home. An informant later told investigators that Gledhill had confessed to shooting Johnson on September 22.

The informant stated that Gledhill allegedly confessed to relocating her husband’s body to a shallow grave at an undisclosed location and had been actively destroying evidence to cover her tracks. Search warrants executed by investigators uncovered several pieces of evidence, including a large bloodstain on the carpet in the master bedroom, blood on the bed frame slats, and signs of recent cleanup with bleach.

Phone records also revealed that Gledhill ordered a new mattress two days after the shooting. Before the murder, she filed for divorce in July and sought a temporary protective order in August. A judge ruled that there was no evidence of abuse on Johnson’s part but acknowledged that the marriage was “highly dysfunctional.” The couple has three children: aged 11, 7, and 5.
