A court has convicted a woman for allegedly causing the deaths of her four young children in a London house fire. Deveca Rose, 30, faced court on (Oct. 3), for leaving her two sets of twin boys home alone while she allegedly went shopping on Dec. 16, 2021.

More Info About The Day Of The Fire

Firefighters found twin brothers Leyton and Logan Hoath, 3, and Kyson and Bryson Hoath, 4, unconscious in an upstairs bedroom.

An individual noticed the house on fire after 7 p.m. and alerted a neighbor, who kicked in the front door to reach the children. PEOPLE reports that the fire likely started in the ground-floor living room from a candle or a burning signature.

According to BBC, the four children ran to the upper floor to cry for help but couldn’t escape, ultimately leading to their deaths.

In a police statement, Deveca claimed she met a woman named Jade a few days before the incident who was supposed to supervise her children. On the night of the incident, Rose reportedly attempted to call “Jade” in front of the police using a phone number similar to her own. However, call data from Rose’s mobile phone revealed no contact details for the woman named “Jade,” as explained by PEOPLE. Furthermore, authorities have not located Jade, and there is no trace of a relationship between her and Deveca.

CCTV footage obtained by police confirmed that Deveca had also left her house alone the day before the incident.  Additionally, the Times noted that five months before the fire, social workers determined the family needed assistance, but Deveca refused to engage.

Details On Deveca Rose’s Conviction & What’s Next?

Per The Guardian, Rose was convicted on four manslaughter charges but found not guilty of child abandonment.

Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command stated that Deveca Rose should have been the one protecting the four boys.

“Had she been in the house when the fire started she may have been able to put it out, or at the very least get the children to safety,” DCI Townsend added.

Authorities released Rose on bail on Oct. 3, and she will return to court for sentencing on Nov. 15.
