The Brady House Is a Landmark Now — Guess These Other TV Homes

This week’s retro trailer is for the 1971 horror movie The House That Dripped Blood. I’m a fan of horror anthology films, and this anthology movie was directed by Peter Duffell, and it is based on a collection of short stories by Robert Bloch.

The film is structured around four eerie tales, all centered on a mysterious house where strange and macabre events have occurred.

The first story, “Method for Murder,” follows a horror writer whose fictional killer seemingly comes to life.”

In the second story, “Waxworks,” two friends are haunted by a wax figure that bears a disturbing resemblance to a woman they both once loved.

The third tale, “Sweets to the Sweet,” revolves around a domineering father and his fear of his daughter, whom he suspects of practicing witchcraft.

The final story, “The Cloak,” involves a pompous actor who buys a cloak for a vampire role, only to find out the garment has supernatural powers.

Each segment of the film plays in the psychological horror realm, blurring the lines between reality and the supernatural. The connective tissue of the plot is an investigation by a Scotland Yard detective into the house and its strange history, uncovering the eerie connections between the tenants and the house’s sinister nature.

The movie has great atmospheric storytelling and strong performances from a cast that includes horror icons such as Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, The House That Dripped Blood offers a chilling blend of gothic horror and mystery.
