At a recent North Carolina rally, former President Donald Trump pledged to reinstate the names of Confederate generals on military bases. His primary focus was renaming Fort Bragg, renamed Fort Liberty after the tragic death of George Floyd.

“I’m doing it. And we’re leading in all the polls, we should get elected. Remember this, they cheat like hell. Too big to rig. We need too big to rig,” Trump said during the rally. According to Raw Story, the decision to initially remove Braxton Bragg’s name was because he was one of the Confederacy’s least effective generals and a violent enslaver. Trump reportedly expressed his joy during his speech that a soldier was booed for mistakenly using the base’s official name, Fort Liberty, instead of Fort Bragg.

Trump’s remarks sparked criticism on social media mainly addressing the former president’s obsession with reversing past decisions in the United States. During his presidency, Trump issued a veto of a major military policy bill in December 2020, which included renaming military bases, was overrided by Congress. “Unfortunately, the Act fails to include critical national security measures, includes provisions that fail to respect our veterans and our military’s history, and contradicts efforts by my Administration to put America first in our national security and foreign policy actions,” he wrote at the time.

It was previously reported that Trump wanted to remove the temporary protected status of Haitian migrants and promised to deport them of re-elected as President.

“What’s happening there is horrible … You have to remove the people. You cannot destroy our country … It has nothing to do with Haiti or anything else. It doesn’t work. You have to remove the people, and you have to bring them back to their own country….I would revoke and I’d bring them back to their country.”
