Here’s What Reportedly Happened To Ilcehin Pehlivan, The Turkish Airlines Pilot, Mid-Flight
According to Fox Business, the Turkish Airlines passenger jet took off from Seattle around 7:02 p.m. on Tuesday. Per the New York Post, the plane was reportedly en route to Istanbul, Turkey. However, flight tracking software showed that it made an “extreme turn” toward John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.
Yahya Ustun, a spokesperson for Turkish Airlines, shared a statement about what occurred on the flight around 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
“The Captain Pilot of our Airbus 350 type aircraft with the tail registration TC-LGR, operating the flight number TK204 from Seattle to Istanbul, İlçehin PEHLİVAN, fainted during the flight,” Uston tweeted.
Additionally, Ustun explained that when a “first medical intervention” was “ineffective,” the cockpit crew “decided to make an emergency landing.” However, Pehlivan passed away before they arrived at JFK.
“When the first medical intervention to our captain on the plane was ineffective, the cockpit crew consisting of 1 captain and 1 co-pilot decided to make an emergency landing, but our captain lost his life before landing,” Ustun explained.
What Happened After The Tragic Incident?
Ustun explained that a “periodic health examination” was performed on the pilot in August. Subsequently, “no health problem was detected,” which prevented Pehlivan from working. Ultimately, Ustun shared his condolences to the pilot’s family while giving an update on the flight’s route.
“Having worked at Turkish Airlines since 2007, İlçehin PEHLİVAN was 59 years old. A periodic health examination was carried out on 08.03.2024 at the Aviation Medical Center authorized by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, and no health problem was detected that would prevent him from working,” the spokesperson stated. “Our plane has decided to land in New York, and our passengers’ return home is planned via New York station. As the Turkish Airlines family, we wish God’s mercy upon our captain and patience to his grieving family, all his colleagues, and loved ones.”

A Man In North Carolina Reportedly Passed Away While On The Job
As The Shade Room previously reported, a man in North Carolina reportedly passed away while working at Food Lion in September. His body was reportedly discovered in a freezer by his co-workers before they called the police on September 10.
Subsequently, authorities revealed that they believed the man experienced a medical emergency the evening prior.
