R. Kelly’s daughter is speaking out to let everyone know where she stands with her father following her shocking revelation.
As previously reported, in the new documentary for the TVEI Streaming Network, R. Kelly’s daughter, Buku Abi, claimed that the R&B singer sexually abused her as a child, alleging this occurred when she was just 10 years old. “He was my everything. For a long time, I didn’t even want to believe that it happened. I didn’t know that even if he was a bad person he would do something to me,” Abi said in the episode. “I was too scared to tell anybody. I was too scared to tell my mom.” While Abi states in the documentary that she believes Kelly deserves to be in prison, she emphasizes that she does not hate her father.
In a follow-up Instagram post, Buku shared, “I will by start by saying growing up and throughout my early adulthood, I swore to never speak on my father, or really anything pertaining to my personal life and what I’ve experienced. For many reasons but ultimately fear and I didn’t want to remember. Anything. Let me first clearly say this I DO NOT ‘hate’ MY FATHER. Nor do I blindly follow my mother. I’m not angry. I’m not looking for revenge. I’m not looking for clout. (I am and BEEN more than that I could care less about people’s opinions. Good or bad. (And I say that with the utmost respect).” She went on to explain her reasons for speaking out now:
“I did it for me, I did it for my son. I did it for my peace of mind. Did it for the ones that love and know me but never understood me growing up. I did it to honor truth. I did it to look my biggest demon in the eyes and tell ’em I’m done. I love my mother. I love my father. I honor my mother, I honor my father. But I will never sacrifice truth over ‘honor’ (true honor should never require that anyway). My brother, sister, my son and I deserved better than what we’ve experienced and continue to experience. THIS is about THEM for me and will not stop scratching and I did it for me, I did it for my son. I did it for my peace of mind.”

Buku emphasizes that while she honors both her parents, “I will never sacrifice truth over ‘honor’ (true honor should never require that anyway). My brother, sister, my son and I deserved better than what we’ve experienced and continue to experience.” She concluded, “This is just the beautiful beginning. Let it burn.”
In response, Kelly’s attorney has denied the claims made by Buku.
“Mr. Kelly vehemently denies these allegations,” said Kelly’s lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, of the New York City-based Bonjean Law Group, in a statement to People. “His ex-wife made the same allegation years ago, and it was investigated by the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services and was unfounded… And the ‘filmmakers,’ whoever they are, did not reach out to Mr. Kelly or his team to even allow him to deny these hurtful claims.”
“R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey” is currently streaming on the TVEI Streaming Network.
