Texas authorities are on the search for a man, identified as Dawayland Hurst, who is accused of brutally murdering the ex-girlfriend of his half-brother’s killer. The Seabrook Police Department responded to a call on October 4, where they found 24-year-old MaryJayne Collins unresponsive in her home. Although there were initial reports of a shooting, it was later revealed that she was stabbed to death.

According to Law and Crime, two young children were in the home but they were not physically harmed. In January 2020, it was reported by authorities that Diajwan Triplett, Hurst’s half-brother, had been murdered in Texas City. Michael King, 25, was convicted for his murder. Detectives have connected Hurst with Collins, who was King’s former girlfriend and the mother of his child. They also learned that Hurst and Collins reportedly started dating in June, and the relationship quickly turned abusive, with Collins showing evidence of her injuries to friends and family.
According to a report, King allegedly brought a phone from prison and made a FaceTime call to Collins on the day of the murder. Hurst reportedly taunted King by slapping his child in the face after answering the call instead. Collins was last heard in the background saying, “No, get away, baby, get away from him.” King’s mother made a plea on Facebook to check on Collins after learning about the disturbing FaceTime call.

Hurst was seen leaving the home around 11 a.m. and taking a different route to avoid being seen.
Concerned friends contacted the police to conduct a wellness check, which led to the discovery of her body. An arrest warrant has been issued for Hurst, and investigators have concluded that his actions were motivated by avenging his brother’s death.
