Trina has complete and total trust in her marriage.
The Miami rapper also known as Da Baddest B-tch has been married to Benjamin Kearse Jr. since May of this year. In her sit-down with Keyshia Ka’oir, who is rapper Gucci Mane’s wife, Trina explains why she felt comfortable with not signing a prenup with Kearse.
On Ka’oir’s podcast All Things Keyshia Ka’oir, Trina said, “My husband brings all of his money to me. So I’m in charge. He can’t spend a dime without my consent. He can’t spend a dime for nothing unless it goes through me. That phone go to ringing up – I see everything.”
Predictably, people had differing opinions on Trina’s statement. Some felt what she said and how she phrased it seemed degrading to her husband.
“She should’ve kept that in house she just made that man look like a simp,” said one person under the Shade Room’s post. Another also added their 2 cents, writing, “If a man worded that sentence in that same structure: “She cant spend a dime without my consent.” We as women would be outraged, but here go the high fives. I found it pretty emasculating. Sorry.”
However, other people found nothing wrong in what Trina said and even suggested that finances in a household were handled in a similar way years ago.
Another commenter wrote, “So back in the day.. The men used to do this..bring home the paycheck and the wife would pay the bills.. she’s give him money for things he wanted..I thought y’all wanted the traditional relationships.” A second person in favor of Trina’s statement said, “This normally how it go! Women typically balance and structure the household finances.”
Despite all the discourse over the statement, it seems Trina’s husband didn’t have any objections, since she confirmed a few moments later in the same interview that he was sitting in the same room as her and Ka’oir watching.
Ka’oir continued on with the discussion asking Trina where she met her hubby.
She said she was out at an event with her cousin Joy when she looked over and said “who is that?” Of course, Joy wasn’t aware of who Kearse Jr. was at the time, so Joy said, “I don’t know,” to which Ka’oir said she responded, “Me neither, but we need to find out.”
From Trina’s recollection, they caught each other’s attention and the rest is history.
She said, “He stood there the whole night, just like – it was like we were the only two people in the place. I couldn’t see nothing else, he didn’t see nothing else and he walked over. Said ‘Hi,’ I said ‘Hi.’”
As for their ceremony, Trina confirms that they haven’t had one yet. She said, “We just did a private marriage. The wedding is next year. It’s a lot with a wedding you know that.”
Ka’oir encouraged Trina not to rush the planning of the ceremony. From her perspective, having the private ceremony where she and Gucci exchanged vows in their home was more meaningful than the 10-part wedding special they had on BET in 2017 called Gucci Mane and Keyshia Ka’oir: The Mane Event.
