Opening a small business is tough. You want to get the first day right to ensure customers keep coming back. In addition, you need to advertise the event. In a world where information flows constantly, getting people’s attention can prove problematic. In the following article, we provide essential tips on the opening of a small business.

Use Social Media Wisely

Social media is not the golden ticket it once was. Clogged up with algorithms and bots, it can be very hard to get your message out there. Unless you are willing to invest money in sponsored ads and posts, then starting up social channels should be done, but it should not be looked at as a way to grab new customers. It is now a way to inform and update people who already follow you on your business activities.

Using this train of thought, you can find other social channels and ask them to tell others about the opening. It may be other local businesses, media outlets, or personalities. This will help you grow an account quicker than adding daily posts and searching for hashtags.

Don’t neglect print media over digital channels either. There are plenty of people who prefer newspapers and leaflets. In many ways, it can be easier than trying to cut through the swathe of online information.

Let People Try the Business for Free

Giving people a sample of what you do and what you are about before and on the opening day is a good idea. How you let people try your business for free will depend on the type of operation you have. Retail businesses will have to take a different approach to service-based business.

If you are selling a product, consider giving away samples. These should be small and cost-effective. The online casino industry has used this to great effect. By making many of their online casino no deposit, it has let people try the game without having to sign up or make any financial commitment. Combined with great customer service and an increased product selection, this free sample model has grown the industry’s user base.  The same principle can be applied to your business.

If you are a service-based business, consider giving away information for free. You may have a seminar where you hold a talk, or create an educational ebook. You could also work for free, helping local charities and good causes. This will also be good marketing for the company.

Create an Opening Day

Opening the business should be a day set aside for celebration. It is also a great way to get customers in the door and engage with you. They may even possibly convert to a sale.

There are many different ways you can have an opening day. You may have an invite-only event for friends, family, and other local business owners. The opposite is to have an open-door policy. You may offer first-customer discounts or have special prizes to get the ball rolling.

Give yourself at least three months to plan the opening of a small business. Make sure you connect with the audience by providing something of value on the opening day. With the right planning, you will set up a loyal customer base that sows the seeds of success in the future.
