* Some of the biggest names in hard rock will assemble for the Sonic Temple festival on May 8-11 in Columbus, Oh., with Metallica playing two distinct sets during the weekend alongside performances from Linkin Park, Korn, Incubus, Three Days Grace with original vocalist Adam Gontier, Alice Cooper, Alice in Chains and System of a Down member Shavo Odadjian‘s new band, Seven Hours After Violet.

* Comedian Dave Chappelle and rapper Killer Mike are joining forces on a seven-date fall co-headlining tour dubbed “STILL TALKIN THAT SH*T!,” which will visit Detroit (Nov. 15), Atlanta (Nov. 17), Chicago (Nov. 18), Boston (Nov. 21), New York (Nov. 21), Oakland, Ca. (Nov. 23) and Long Beach, Ca. (Nov. 24). Described simply as “a fusion of music and comedy across a joint set,” the shows will be “phone-free experiences.”

* Alan Jackson and Sturgill Simpson will anchor the third edition of the Two Step Inn festival on April 5-6 at San Gabriel Park in the central Texas city of Georgetown, with the former’s performance coming as part of his ongoing farewell tour. The lineup also features Miranda Lambert, Flatland Cavalry, Diplo presents Thomas Wesley, Gavin Adcock, ERNEST, Eli Young Band, Tracy Byrd, Diamond Rio, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ryan Bingham and the Texas Gentlemen, Nelly and Sammy Kershaw. Per promoter C3 Presents, Two Step Inn has generated more than $200 million for the local economy during its tenure.

* Dolly Parton herself won’t be present, but her multi-media concert, Threads: My Songs in Symphony, has announced its first run of dates backed by local orchestras in each city. So far, 11 shows have been announced, beginning March 20 in Nashville. The latter is, at the moment, the only date Parton at which Parton will actually make an appearance; at the others, she will be represented on-screen through pre-recorded segments.

* Air welcomed Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars for surprise appearances Monday (Oct. 21) and last night (Oct. 22) at New York’s Beacon Theatre, with the longtime friends and contemporary French music legends teaming for their 2000 The Virgin Suicides collaboration “Playground Love.” The artists previously played the song as part of the Paris Olympic Games closing ceremony in August. Air is performing their beloved album Moon Safari in its entirety on their current world tour, which wraps Nov. 29 in Hong Kong. Four final performances will be staged in March in Paris.

* Disclosure, Anderson .Paak‘s DJ Pee .Wee alter ego, Duck Sauce (A-Trak and Armand Van Helden), Boys Noize, AC Slater and Wax Motif will set sail early next year on FriendShip, the dance music cruise created by EDM legend Gary Richards. The event will travel from Miami to Belize from Feb. 21-26 and will also drop anchor for a 24-hour private party on Harvest Caye.
