Beyoncé’s Sister Breaks Silence On Multiple Disorder Diagnosis

The “Cranes in the Sky” singer recently broke her silence on her well-being in a health update shared by fellow artist Shaun Ross. Solange could relate to his Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) diagnosis because she faced the same struggle.

According to Beyoncé’s sister, she was diagnosed with multiple health conditions six years ago. Solange Knowles previously confessed she had poor health in 2021 following the recording of her 2019 album, “When I Get Home.”

Solange got candid about her health after Ross opened up about suffering from POTS. She addressed his diagnosis as a fellow victim, noting she had the condition alongside Sjögren’s syndrome and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS).

“Sending u so much love and strength, Shaun, and to all in the comments struggling with the debilitating, confusing, and lonely symptoms of POTS,” Solange penned in the comments, adding:

“I got diagnosed with POTS, Sjogren’s, and Mcas in 2018 and really relate to not wanting your health to be your identity.”

The singer credited Dysautonomia International — a non-profit organization that supports individuals living with autonomic nervous system disorders — for helping her through her journey. In her words:

“The good folks at @dysautonomiaint! were really an incredible resource for me, and I feel really grateful for the spoonie community for holding me down during my times of complete uncertainty!”

Many responded to Solange’s words with their love and support, with someone confessing, “I’m dealing with Mcas pots as well for years now, Ty, for speaking up about it. Most doctors have no idea what it is.”

“@solangeknowles thank you for raising awareness and sharing your experience with POTS,” another supporter chimed. Ross echoed similar sentiments, applauding Solange for sharing her truth. He wrote:

“Thank you so much, Solange. You’ve known me since I was a teen and how energetic I can be. This definitely changed my entire outlook on so much trying to navigate this entirely. I appreciate you so much. Sending love.”

Dysautonomia International also penned their love to Solange, adding, “It’s a small world. We’ve been chatting with @shaunross for a while. Hugs to both of you and everyone living with this stuff. Thank you both for speaking up and sharing your stories to raise awareness.”

Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), per Cleveland Clinic, is a condition that causes various symptoms when one transitions from lying down to standing up. The list includes a fast heart rate, dizziness, and fatigue.

In 2012, The Blast shared that Solange had faced a significant challenge while recording her 2019 album “When I Get Home.” She reflected on the process in an Instagram post, describing the project as life changing.

The singer confessed she battled degrading physical health to complete her album, stating she frequently prayed to God for good signs. Although she did not share the name of her condition, Solange stressed that it was a severe diagnosis.

Despite her poor health, the album held a special place in her heart. “When I listen back, I hear a woman who had only an inkling of what the journey entailed but didn’t have a clue of why or what the journey would look like,” she said.

Solange was born in Houston, Texas, to a family heavily influenced by music. She was a backup dancer for Beyoncé’s Destiny’s Child group before launching her music career in 2001. Her father, Mathew Knowles, served as her manager.

Solange gained recognition when she performed in “Hey Goldmember,” a soundtrack for a 2002 film. A year later, Mathew announced his plan to make her a member of Destiny’s Child, but that ship never sailed.

Nonetheless, Solange made a name for herself as a solo artist and even broke into the movie industry. She starred in the 2006 teen comedy film “Bring It On: All or Nothing” as a cheerleader named Camille.

Solange’s health revelation comes at the heels of her sister’s endorsement of Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. The Blast shared that Beyoncé and former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland hit the stage at the VP’s “Reproductive Rights” rally.

The powerful duo was welcomed to the stage by Tina Knowles, who introduced Rowland as one of her “bonus daughters.” As for Beyoncé, she implored the crowd to make the right decision during the November elections, saying:

“I’m not here as a celebrity. I’m not here as a politician. I’m here as a mother. A mother who cares deeply about the world. A world where we have the freedom to control our bodies. A world where we’re not divided.”

Beyoncé’s sister has certainly had her fair share of health struggles but continues to inspire as she rises above all of it.
