Reacher star Alan Ritchson and Prey breakout Amber Midthunder have been tapped for the leading roles in the upcoming action movie titled Painter. The project is reportedly being developed as a potential franchise starter for Infrared, a FilmNation Entertainment-owned production company.
“Painter will be a seminal action hero film, making Midthunder into this generation’s Sarah Connor (Terminator),” Infrared president Drew Simon said in a statement. “We loved [Derek] Kolstad’s high-octane script, and we know with Garrett Warren at the helm this film will kickstart an exciting new franchise in the world of action.”
What is the Painter movie about?
Painter will be directed by Logan stunt coordinator Garrett Warren from a screenplay written by John Wick scribe Derek Kolstad. The story revolves around a young woman’s mission to rescue her kidnapped father. Now, she must use every skill she learned from her training when she was younger in order to save him. In addition to leading the cast, Ritchson has also signed on as a producer alongside Kolstad, Drew Simon, Josh Adler, and Dan Spilo. Infrared is also set to finance the project.
This marks Ritchson’s latest action movie following Guy Ritchie’s recently released The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Besides reprising his star-making role as Jack Reacher in Reacher Season 4, he will next be seen in the action comedy Playdate with Kevin James and the action sci-fi War Machine. As for Midthunder, after receiving praises for her leading performance in the Predator prequel Prey, she has a few projects lined up for her at the moment, including the action thriller Novocaine and the horror movie Opus with Ayo Edebiri.
