Colin Farrell & Russos Team Up for Comic Book Movie

Joe and Anthony Russo have played a big role in shaping the Marvel Cinematic Universe and they brought the Infinity Saga to an end in an epic way with Avengers: Endgame.

Since then, Marvel Studios has struggled with the projects they’ve released and they’ve been dropping the ball with the filmmaking and storytelling quality. As of right now, they are riding high off the success of Deadpool & Wolverine and Agatha All Along.

The Russo Bros. are returning to Marvel to direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which is a story that they are very passionate about and excited about telling.

During a recent interview with GamesRadar+, they said that they believe the next two Avengers films will be on “an equal footing with Infinity War and Endgame.”

Joe said: “Why would we come back if we didn’t feel like we had a story that had that possibility of being on an equal footing with Infinity War and Endgame unless there’s a kernel there for an idea that’s really explosive?”

Hopefully all of the Marvel movies leading up to those Avengers films end up being great high-quality films as well that reach the bar set by many of the films in the Infinity Saga.

The Russo Brothers also reflected on their relationship with Robert Downey Jr., saying: “We’re all very close. We had been working on another project before Marvel approached all of us.

“So, we’re working on another project with Robert – and there was a story that evolved through conversations that we got very excited about. Because it’s always got to be the story.”

As you know, Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU as the villain Doctor Doom, which is going to be wild.

The Russos previously talked about returning to Marvel, saying: “You’re the best damn fans in the world, and we’ve missed you.

“When we made Avengers: Endgame we truly believed that it was the end of the road for us in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  We had put all the passion, love and imagination that we had into the Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and then culminated it all with Endgame.

“All within a few years. We had spent everything we had creatively, and we left all our emotions on the floor.  But in the time since, we began to feel that there was perhaps one story where we could find a new narrative path forward. It’s the reason we fell in love with comic books in the first place. That story is Secret Wars.

“We cannot express how excited we are to dive back into this world, and explore such a deliciously complex character like Victor Von Doom. And there is no better friend or collaborator to do that with, [than] THE great [Robert Downey Jr.].

“Marvel fam, let’s do this…”

The script for Avengers: Doomsday is being developed by Stephen McFeely, who previously co-wrote all of the Russo Brothers’ MCU projects.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released in May 2026 with Avengers: Secret Wars set to follow in May 2027.
