After soaring through the cosmos and into fans’ hearts over two decades ago, Daft Punk’s Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem is heading to the big screen for one night only.

The legendary electronic music duo’s classic anime film will be screened in cinemas worldwide in remastered 4K on December 12th, 2024. The film made its North American debut in late-September, when it aired at LA’s United Theater prior to a rare panel featuring Daft Punk’s former manager, Pedro Winter and Creative Director, Cédric Hervet.

Originally released in May 2003 as a visual companion to Daft Punk’s sophomore album Discovery, the audacious sci-film film was created by Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Hervet alongside manga legend Leiji Matsumoto. Setting a stratospheric benchmark for audiovisual storytelling at the time, the hourlong film was splintered into scenes for a number of Daft Punk music videos, including the ageless “One More Time.”

“‘One More Time’ was playing all over the town at that time,” said Shinji Shimizu of Toei Animation, who produced the film. “I felt so proud that I wanted to shout to people on the street, ‘We are making its animation now!'”

In partnership with Trafalgar Releasing, the momentous global screening of Interstella 5555 will take place across over 800 theaters in more than 40 countries. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale Wednesday, November 13th.

In addition to the screenings, Daft Punk are also rolling out a limited physical release for the Discovery: Interstella 5555 Edition album. It contains the album’s original Japanese edition artwork, stickers and Daft Club card as well as gold vinyl (limited to 5,555 copies), numbered CDs (5,555 copies) and black vinyl (25,000 copies).

The duo also launched a limited-edition merch line featuring the Crescendolls, the animated band at the core of Interstella 5555. Fans can purchase items on Daft Punk’s official shop.
