‘Big Bang Theory’ Spinoff Coming to HBO Max

Westeros is headed to the big screen as a Game of Thrones movie is in early development at Warner Bros.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Westeros is set to transition from television to film for the first time. The project is in “very early stage development” as no director, writer, or stars are currently attached to it. However, it is the first time that WB has seriously considered doing a Game of Thrones movie. No word yet if it will be a sequel to the completed HBO series or a spin-off.

This isn’t the first time that a Game of Thrones story was pitched, though. Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss previously wanted to do three movies rather than the television show’s final season. That idea was soundly rejected by HBO, and the disappointing season that we received was the end result.

Since the main show ended, we’ve seen two prequels come to fruition. House of the Dragon has aired two seasons (with a third on the way), and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is arriving in 2025. A Jon Snow sequel series was canceled, which could potentially lead to an idea for the movie.

What is Game of Thrones about?

“Trouble is brewing in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. For the driven inhabitants of this visionary world, control of Westeros’ Iron Throne holds the lure of great power. But in a land where the seasons can last a lifetime, winter is coming…and beyond the Great Wall that protects them, an ancient evil has returned,” says the synopsis of Game of Thrones. “Based on the bestselling book series ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ by George R.R. Martin comes this epic HBO drama series set in a fantastic realm where noble families engage in a deadly fight for control.”

Game of Thrones featured a sprawling cast that included Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Isaac Hempstead Wright, Iain Glen, Alfie Allen, and many more.
