Anthony Hopkins is set to star in the upcoming film Maserati: The Brothers, which is an English-language biopic directed about the family behind the high-performance automobiles.
Hopkins will play an Italian financier who bankrolls the Maserati brothers. The movie will be directed by Bobby Moresco and is being produced by Italy’s Andrea Iervolino.
Iervolino said in a statement: “Having Anthony Hopkins on board is a dream come true. His unparalleled ability to embody complex characters will undoubtedly elevate our story, and we are eager to see how he brings depth to his role.”
Maserati was founded in 1914, in Bologna, Italy, and the company was initially an automobile workshop dedicated to the production of race cars.
The Maserati brothers, Alfieri, Ettore and Ernesto, were passionate about engineering and motorsport, which heavily influenced their early innovations. Under their leadership, Maserati quickly established itself in the world of competitive racing, winning major victories, including the prestigious Targa Florio.
The brand’s signature trident logo, designed by Mario Maserati, symbolizes power and draws inspiration from the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna.
Alfieri Maserati, one of the founding brothers and a talented engineer, was particularly instrumental in shaping the company’s early success. His vision and technical expertise led Maserati to develop cutting-edge engines and designs that defined the brand’s identity.
After Alfieri’s untimely death in 1932, his brothers carried on the business, continuing to refine Maserati’s reputation for creating world-class sports and luxury cars.
Throughout its history, the company has undergone several changes in ownership, but it remains synonymous with Italian craftsmanship, luxury, and speed, producing iconic models like the GranTurismo and Quattroporte, which are admired by enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
The movie will start shooting soon in Bologna. The rest of the casting is being kept under wraps.
