Like stepping through a wormhole back to the golden age of MTV, Mathame’s new single “Discovery Channel” updates an ageless Bloodhound Gang anthem with a modern techno twist.
Out now on Republic and Casablanca Records, the track pulses with the intensity of a late-night dancefloor drenched in nostalgia. Joining forces with Lyke, the Italian duo has taken Bloodhound Gang’s 1999 hit “The Bad Touch” and mutated it into a darker, headier vessel where the gleeful absurdity of the original meets Mathame’s shadowy atmospherics. Remembered for its cheeky lyrics and provocative refrain (“So let’s do it like they do on the Discovery Channel”), the original became an MTV mainstay, celebrating carefree irreverence and playful energy.
Mathame’s interpretation brings the instantly recognizable hook to life with a melodic techno twist, luring listeners with the familiar lyrics only to send them spiraling into a tidal wave of club-shaking synths. Synth stabs surge skyward while the rhythmic thrum of Mathame’s bassline hurtles forward.
Since debuting “Discovery Channel” at ADE, the track is becoming a crowd favorite in their performances. “It immediately became a hypnotic, magical piece in our sets,” the duo said, adding that its evolution from cheeky pop hit to techno anthem felt instinctive.
