Entertainment Squad’s genre label The Horror Collective has released a trailer for Do Not Open, a psychological thriller threatening to expose “the terrifying consequences of our modern obsession with technology” and offer “a stark reminder that the dangers we fear most might already be in our hands —on our phones, tablets, and computers.”
Written and directed by Brian Babarik, the movie’s cast includes Kian Lawson-Khalili, Swedish actress Johanna Smitz, and newcomer Noëlle Gutierrez. Asking the question of what would happen if the technology you trust became your worst enemy, it will hit digital platforms on Nov. 12.
The trailer for Do Not Open, from Novel Thoughts Production, hints at a family’s descent into chaos after their daughter downloads a popular app to save face with her friends, leading the family members’ relationship with their devices to take a terrifying turn.
“We spend so much time staring at our screens without asking what could be staring back,” said Babarik. “In Do Not Open, we explore what happens when we take the blinders off and explore what is on the other side of all those tiny cameras and microphones observing us every waking and sleeping moment.”
Producer Shaked Berenson (Turbo Kid, Tales of Halloween), the CEO of Entertainment Squad, said: “The film serves as a warning. We’ve become so reliant on technology that we’ve let it infiltrate every part of our lives. It is a powerful look at the real horror that exists within our screens.”
The Horror Collective’s upcoming releases also include The Deserving, “featuring a mute serial killer who is haunted by his past,” according to a synopsis, and The Unraveling, described as “a poetic and dark reminder of the price that comes with love.”
