Teddi Mellencamp offered an update on her divorce on a recent episode of her shared podcast with Tamra Judge.
Days after filing to end her 13-year marriage to husband Edwin Arroyave, 47, and announcing her decision with a statement posted to her Instagram page, the 43-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum opened up about the split and her kids as she clapped back at claims of potential hypocrisy regarding what she’s willing to share.
“I am doing alright,” Teddi confirmed on Two Ts in a Pod, via a clip shared on Instagram by Vanderpod Recaps. “At this point, I’m obviously only going to share what I shared on social media, and I just am trying, I don’t even know how to say this eloquently, but I’m just trying my hardest to make sure that my kids’ privacy is protected right now and that we’re able to have all these conversations.”
According to Teddi, she announced her filing on social media because she didn’t want the story to “blow up” before she spoke out.
“For anybody that’s curious why I would’ve posted it, posted a statement, it’s because when your name is recognizable and you file in the court system, it becomes public,” she explained. “I know that I am going to keep working on feeling my best so that I can show up the best for my kids, and my life, and my work. I think that’s the biggest thing for me right now.”
Teddi then said that as somebody who recaps other people’s stories on her podcast, she’s faced criticism from fans who have told her, “Don’t be a hypocrite, Teddi.”
“But when it does come to this and children, I think there’s just room to give it up,” she noted.
After Teddi confirmed her split from Edwin with a post on Instagram, stating that her “priority is [her] children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and wellbeing throughout this new chapter,” details of the RHOBH alum’s filing were shared, confirming she requested full custody of her and Edwin’s three kids, 12-year-old Slate, 10-year-old Cruz, and four-year-old Dove.
In her court documents, Teddi also requested spousal support from Edwin and asked that a judge block him from getting financial support from her.
Although Edwin hasn’t yet offered a direct response to the split, he took to his Instagram Story over the weekend with a telling message about “dark days.”
“You’re not always going to be motivated or inspired. That’s where rituals [and] habits come in. Having good habits is what will get you through your dark days. It’s when you’re under pressure that your true character is revealed,” his message said.
Teddi Mellencamp was featured on seasons eight through 10 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
